My Story & My Advice: A Night with Ellie Krieger
By Danielle Krupa / 26-May-2015
On Monday, February 2nd, 2015, Ellie Krieger, Host of Food Network’s hit show, Healthy Appetite, with Co-Chairs Betty Comerford and Terry Frishman, welcomed 57 professionals who braved a blizzard to attend NYWCA’s fifth annual My Story & Advice: A Night With... fundraiser at the Institute of Culinary Education.
The evening raised $2,809.81 for future Charitable Giving Committee’s contributions, including $450 from raffle ticket purchases. Donated kitchen items were contributed to benefit the Spoons Across America Dinner Party Project.
Attendees enjoyed wines from Gotham Wines while indulging in a buffet of savory and sweet member-prepared dishes from Ellie’s cookbooks, including falafel salad, pumpkin seed pesto wraps and dark chocolate pretzel clusters.
Ellie shared thoughts on publishing her first cookbook (“don’t be afraid to go back to the drawing board and make changes”), navigating social-media (“make it a real exchange, not a pure marketing thing”), and finding a manager (“put yourself out there and do the work”).
As Terry’s interview concluded, Ellie left us with this sentiment: “If you can find the work that gives you energy, then you can do it all day.” We couldn’t agree more. Grateful thanks to Ellie and all involved. We left feeling inspired and warm on an otherwise bitter cold evening.
